I have had antibodies for herpes for over 20 years, but only recently had my first outbreak. I had been diagnosed with HSV 2 two years ago. I was terrified when I found out that I would never be able to find someone who would understand what I was going through and want to be with me, a feeling I am sure many people on this site have had.
I'm 16 and I found out a week ago that I got HSV type 1. I've only had sex once so when I went into the doctor I expected nothing bad, but she told me I had herpes and I couldn't handle it. But when I told my parents my dad took one of the best ways to handle it. He said to tell him what I liked about myself, what matters to me in life, and how I'm going to change my life and move forward because the only way to move on is to make changes. I realize now that I still have so much that will happen in my life and that herpes is a minor obstacle and with the right person it will be OK.
