Confused With Herpes

On July 24th, 2012, I walked into a health clinic to sign back up for my health insurance because it got cancelled. Since it was a health clinic, I decided to get an STD and HIV test done. This was something I did every 6 months anyway.
On July 30th, 2012, exactly 1 week later, I was told my results were in and I had HSV 1 and 2. I started taking an antiviral medicine called Valtrex as of August 3rd 2012.
Today, August 4th 2012, I am sitting here at my computer devastated, hurt, crying, as well as confused. I don't have family members or friends I can talk to or seek advice from. The man I have been dating doesn't speak to me if it's not about meeting up and sleeping with each other.
I am 34 years old and really don't know who or where to turn to. In my mind, I am dirty, unworthy, as well as a disease carrier..
How do I continue on with my life?

Dear Melissa:Sorry for the long delay in the reply. The herpes diagnosis can be very depressing.
Typically people feel quite bummed out for months after the diagnosis. If you are feeling depressed and lonely after the diagnosis you can do one of the following two options:
1. Join a social/support group. This will help you tremendously as you find other people that are going through the same difficulties.
Herpes Social/Support Groups2. See professional help if need be emotionally. While Herpes is not life threatening, depression can be.
Herpes and DepressionMost of all do something positive for yourself.
Going on medication, getting some Herpes friends, being honest with others, all these things can help.
And most of all, be positive and healing to yourself.
Hope that helps.
